People turn to therapy for many reasons: to relieve feelings of anxiety or depression, change destructive patterns, negotiate a life transition or to improve their self-image. Couples may seek help when experiencing a breakdown in communication, infidelity, infertility or sexual problems. Any of these issues can affect other family members and impact the emotional atmosphere of the home. Once a problem is entrenched it becomes something we avoid, fear or even learn to live with at an emotional cost.
Therapy can help a person to change perspective on his or her problems, mobilize strengths and learn new ways of coping. Thus, difficulties that once seemed insurmountable can be transformed into forces for change and growth.
My approach is both humanistic and practical: while therapy must address the complexity and depth of each individual, it should also yield tangible results. Moreover, beyond relieving symptoms or solving specific problems, therapy is an opportunity to understand oneself better and realize one's full individual potential.
